Fredonia Radio Systems

From http://sunyfredonia.tumblr.com:

Many campus and community members have listened to Fredonia Radio Systems. Whether it’s in the car, online or even just passing by McEwen Hall, the radio station is familiar to many.

Fredonia Radio is comprised of two stations, WCVF 88.9fm and WDVL (streamed online and on campus channel 5). The station is student run and has a reach of about 40,000 listeners in the northern Chautauqua County area.

Several students are not only listeners, but work hard to make the station run. Jeff Wick and Alex Akers have their own show on WCVF called “Rock the Boat.” It runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays and plays strictly vinyl records.

Both Akers and Wick enjoy being a part of the radio station. “I can be as weird as I want and not be judged because there are no cameras or visuals — I can be myself — it’s a wonderful thing,” said Akers.

“I enjoy the people. I feel like it’s nice to have a lot of people around. When I’m here and there’s no one here it’s kind of lonely [and] strange — kind of eriee actually. It’s nice to have people around, I’m all about interaction and it’s cool just to hang out in our lobby,” said Wick.
