About WDVL
WDVL is: “Fredonia’s Blue Devil Radio.” With it’s humble beginning as WCVF ROCK600 am, WDVL eventually broke free and established an identity all it’s own. WDVL is a commercial radio station that is a direct outlet to on-campus students through broadcast via the campus cable network (television channel 5); and even better, it’s a far-reaching medium through web casting directly from this web-site thanks to live365.com. WDVL is the oldest radio station in the SUNY system.
WDVL has taken to provide an effective learning environment for those interested in pursuing a career in the ever changing broadcast industry. WDVL provides a secondary environment for students to get involved in radio broadcast as it creates a drastically more flexible environment than WCVF. “The Inferno” as it has been nick-named, steps outside the “radio” box since it is not technically a radio station. An innovative broadcast utility, WDVL experiments with content provided by live campus events, concerts, production, dramatizations, serials, and special topic programs. An all new specialty line-up can be found during the week including the award winning student produced expose on activity in the middle east: War News Radio on Tuesday afternoons; Dr. Duck gives a dose of Guitar Prescription on Wednesday afternoons; Thursday’s lunch features the latest and greatest from across the pond with Brit-Sound; and last but not least there is the nationally renowned High Noon Friday which is a segment based variety program with content provided by students of SUNY Fredonia’s Intermediate Audio Production Class taught by Dr. Laura Johnson. Also keep an ear open for independent series such as Dont’ Get Screwed a student business/economic report; and the daily Morning Inferno which brings you all of your latest news, weather, dining hall menus, community events, contests and more! WDVL also regularly cooperates via simulcast on campus tv channel 6, WNYF yeilding creative and original programming such as a relationship and sex advice show called Pillowtalk and Blue Devil Sports, accompanied by the weekly Fredonia Sports Night talk program. WDVL still upholds regular radio content such as student produced news, weather, community calendars, campus dining menus; all the while emphasizing a musical format adhering to contemporary rock and rap standards that funnel into the Final Countdown on Friday Afternoons.
Unlike WCVF, advertising can be sold for commercials, rather than underwriting. Customers can also choose to sponsor specific shows on WDVL. WDVL is not technically “broadcast” and thus is not FCC sanctioned, however we do pride ourselves on maintaining FCC regulation standards in our on-air content.
